The Makara Book Club: PERSEPOLIS

December's book club selection of Leslie Marmon Silko's masterpiece CEREMONY encouraged an open and timely discussion on indigenous identity, resistance, and the water protecters at the Dakota Access Pipeline. We look forward to another full year of reading and learning with our neighbors.

Our January book club selection is Marjane Satrapi's graphic novel PERSEPOLIS, which takes place during the 1979 Islamic Revolution & Iran-Iraq war. The widely translated bestseller is considered controversial by U.S. schools & Iran's government.
